The study of biology is central to understanding the world around us. Our department offers undergraduate and graduate programs steeped in research that reflects the complexity and diversity of living organisms. Working closely with faculty, students explore everything from cell and molecular biology to ecology and evolution.

Academic Programs
Undergraduate Programs
We offer majors and minors in biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, and environmental science. You also could pursue a concentration in mathematical biology and bioinformatics or a track in pre-health biology.
Accelerated B.A./M.S. Programs
As an undergraduate, you may apply to our Accelerated B.A./M.S. degree in biology, or in biochemistry and molecular biology, with a fifth year paid for by a scholarship.
Ph.D. Program
Our doctoral program’s intimate size allows Ph.D. students to collaborate, build relationships with, and receive mentoring from world-class faculty.
Faces and Places of Research
Our faculty and students spend a lot of time in the lab and analyzing data — but they also head outdoors to conduct research and collect samples. They travel across Massachusetts and to Alaska, and from Bermuda to the Philippines, to study plants and animals up close in diverse habitats.
Careers and Internships in Biology
Our bachelor’s and master’s students have opportunities to pursue research and internships that land them jobs after graduation. And our doctoral students, working closely with faculty and peers, make connections in the field that allow them to pursue careers in academia, government, nonprofit fields, and industry.
